Two Things I Think…

1. Melbourne were well served by their second tier forwards in the 50-6 thrashing of the Titans on Sunday.

Ben Cross and Brett White had their best games in months and Jeff Lima continues to add some thrust from the bench. Michael Crocker had his moments and Jeremy Smith is the enforcer of the group with his at times – unsportsmanlike – play. In fact check out the 68th minute incident involving Smith and Titans prop Ian Donnelly and again a few minutes later when Smith ‘accidently’ trod on Donnelly’s backside near the tryline.
When you consider the Storm’s top forwards Cameron Smith, Dallas Johnson and Ryan Hoffman didn’t need to play out of their skins and the team won by 44 points – the signs are improving that the Melbourne pack will hold its own in September.

2. Can South Sydney win if Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court are not in the stands?

The co-owners have been riding the highs and lows of the 2007 harder than most and now the Bunnies have made the Finals will Crowe in particular be able to make his side’s first semi final since 1989? According to the press, Crowe is off filming a movie somewhere and although he’s been able to make arrangements to watch the last few South Sydney games on television it will be interesting to see how much clout his love and ownership status with the team has on the director and producers of the film in question.
Souths had a huge momentum killing loss to the Roosters to end the regular season and maybe they need Uncle Russ in the stands to get the passion back!
